A well equipped garage shop could have done those. I was doing similar stuff 30-40 tears ago with just a Sears Radial Arm saw and a router. That would include the veneer.

I don't see any back panel but it looks like the particle board bottom and particle board speaker baffle were added later to turn this into a speaker box.
I think the bottom looks original. But looks like the baffle has been changed.

Neither are seen when everything is assembled. It was likely a business decision to save on cost.

Then why wouldn't they use the same particle board for the sides also? Can't see inside when it's assembled so why are the side panels not particle board also?

But maybe it was to use what was at hand.
Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.
Because you do see the outside of the sides and top. You don't typically see the bottoms and backs of cabinets, on either side.
